WVU Children's Institute names Dr. Christopher Mascio as executive chair

He joined the health system in 2021 from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Christopher Mascio was named executive chair of the new WVU Children's Institute.

Mascio first joined the WVU Medicine hospital in 2021 as chief of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and started the WVU Medicine Children's Heart Center as its executive director. His new role will work with WVU Medicine Children's Hospital on the development of the hospital and pediatric offices and clinics. He will report to WVU Health System President/CEO Albert L. Wright Jr. and WVU Health Sciences Center Chancellor/Executive Dean Dr. Clay B. Marsh.

"Dr. Mascio is a highly talented and respected physician executive, whose leadership and work are exemplary," said Wright in a statement. "We welcome his strategic vision and thought leadership as we continue to expand our pediatric programs for the children and families of West Virginia, southwest Pennsylvania, southeast Ohio, and western Maryland."

Mascio, before WVU Health System, had been attending surgeon in the cardiac center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and associate clinical chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery.
